HENRY FREEDMAN
Clock without time, song without music, story without plot and experience without reason, are the subjects of my works. As in dreams, these images, derived from the subconscious, bring together seemingly accidental and incongruous elements to express timeless fantasies, rather than describe visual realities.
In Dreamscape, for example, I created an image which negates the existence of time. After all, time is not a real construct in nature. Rather, it was manufactured to help human beings cope with the unintelligible and crushing weight of eternity. Early man created the minute, corresponding to the human heart beat. The minute was then extended to the hour, the week, the month and the year. The span of life was no longer a tiny part of an endless whole, but rather a manageable and significant entity, with beginning, middle and end. In the tradition of surrealism, I made an object that doesn't indicate time, but rather reveals secrets from the subconscious.
