PAUL POLLARO
In my work I attempt to stir the memory of something familiar and yet mysterious. Often the pictorial references are architectonic and may suggest a landscape and interiors with the perspective of going inwards- all in that ambiguous area of our visual and psychological experience- as in a dream, perhaps.
My interest is primarily in collage, in putting together parts and pieces of painted canvas and working towards semi-abstract and multiple images with the idea that beauty and innocence can be apprehended, for me, only in fragmented form.
In these works, prominent use of textures is a metaphor for the resonances of time- both in terms geological and how elements survive and endure.
Finally, I try for a totality that evokes a silence and meditative aspect to the work.
