NORIKO SAKANISHI
ARTIST RESUME
My collages, like my drawings, are usually made during periods when I'm not working on the constructions which have been my central focus in recent years. But I do not consider them to be minor works.
Although my approach to making art is largely intuitive, upon reflection I can see that my collages involve my personal history in quite an immediate way. But they are historical works only in the sense that the past is always with us and will become part of any future.
Through combining the various materials I use, some of which have direct associations to my family and early life in Japan and some of which relate to my more recent past in America, I hope to discover connections that may only be available through art.
